A few days back, a snapping turtle accidentally got hit by a car while going about its business in Sarnia, Ontario.

In an attempt to save the injured turtle's life, rescue pilot Rick Woodall reportedly agreed to airlift it roughly 250 miles (roughly 400 kilometers) to the Kawartha Turtle Trauma Centre in Peterborough.

One other injured turtle traveled alongside the one harmed in the traffic accident.

“They were quiet and enjoyed the flight. It was for a purpose and it was a fun purpose,” the pilot told members of the press.

Once there, the turtle received appropriate treatment for its facial injuries and its jaw fractures. The staff at said trauma center say that Porter, as this turtle is now named, appears to be doing fine.

They hope that the animal will make a full recovery in the months to come, and that they will eventually be able to release it into its natural habitat.
