Injured Roddick Battles Through

The American managed to beat compatriot Scott Oudesma, even if he suffered an abdominal strain during the 3rd set

Andy Roddick's great comeback inside the ATP was just about to take a serious blow in the Los Angeles Open 2nd round. Even if he had the fewest rest-hours than all other players - he played his 1st round match less than 24 hours before the 2nd round encounter - he would have had no excuse if eliminated. And that's because the player in front of him, Scott Oudesma, was a complete stranger within the ATP Tour.

And things started to get messy after the first set. The two players went head-to-head
in the opener, and Oudesma shocked the crowd by winning the tie-breaker. Still, the Californian fans were more than convinced that this was not going to be a walk in the park for the unseeded player. And Roddick recovered well, leaving his opponent with no answer in the second, 6-3.

The last set was just stunning. And not so much for the fact that Roddick cruised past his opponent with a convincing 6-2 performance, but because he did it while suffering an abdominal strain. So the American couldn't quite celebrate his great comeback, since he is now in doubt for the rest of the Californian tournament. Still, the semi-injury will not endanger his participation in September's US Open.

"It doesn't feel too good right now. If it's like this tomorrow, I don't think there's a lot of hope. Once it happened, it was always there. When I served, and pretty much on every shot, there was pretty intense pain", said Roddick after the game, advising his fans not to get their hopes up. Still, if the American manages to get past his medical problem and decides to continue in the tournament, he will meet Russian Dimtry Tursunov.

Here are the other 2nd round results from Los Angeles:

Andre Agassi - George Bastl 6-7, 6-2, 6-1
Robby Ginepri - Kenneth Carlsen 7-6, 3-6, 6-4
Tommy Haas - Paul Capdeville 6-3, 4-6, 6-1
Paul Goldstein - Igor Kunitsyn 6-4, 6-4
