Haim has extensive injuries on its front legs, the pants keep flies away from them

More often than not, people make animals wear clothes solely for the sake of entertainment.

However, an abused donkey looked after by staff at Ramat Gan Safari in Israel has been wearing trousers for several days now for entirely different reasons. Sources say this donkey, named Haim, was rescued after suffering many abuses at the hands of its owners.

Apparently, the latter often used barbed wire to tie it up, which is why the animal's legs were badly wounded at all times.

After the donkey was brought to the rescue center, its caretakers had to figure out a way to keep flies from nestling inside its wounds, thus giving Haim a chance to heal.

The solution they came up with is odd to say the least, but surprisingly effective. Long story short, they made the donkey wear pants held up by suspenders.

The pants are double-layered, meaning that they have a soft material on the inside and a rather rough one on the outside. Haim's wounds are well protected, and flies are unable to get to them.

The people in charge of looking after Haim say the donkey's health has considerably improved. What's more, the animal is gradually learning to trust people again.
