Major IT developer in India Infosys Technologies and the elite GPU developer NVIDIA revealed today an upcoming partnership plan meant to bring about the creation of software for the CUDA architecture developed by the visual computing-solution provider.

“Multi-core and parallel programming were becoming important for high performance computing needs of certain classes of applications. We believe that Nvidia's GPU technology is an important technology for such high performance computing requirements. We are happy to announce the launch of the Infosys-Nvidia Technology Center to build solutions for our clients across key industry verticals” Subu Goparaju, vice president and head of Software Engineering and Technology Labs, Infosys Technologies, said.

Infosys will assist its clients in converting onto the new CUDA platform. This will decrease the amount of conventional server hardware used by data centers, reducing power usage through the more efficient NVIDIA GPU architecture. This will certainly be an appealing prospect to any server owner, regardless of the industry they are in.

“It is completely clear that GPUs are now general purpose parallel computing processors with amazing graphics, and not just graphics chips any more” Jen-Hsun Huang, co-founder and CEO, NVIDIA Corporation, added. “The CUDA platform greatly helps the GPU achieve great computational efficiency. Many companies globally have already adopted the CUDA platform. Now, thanks to our association with Infosys, the benefits of the parallel computing prowess of GPUs can be reaped by many more Indian and global organizations.”

The revolutionary CUDA technology developed by NVIDIA will allow the exploration of the power potential of GPUs in order to accelerate certain applications, thus boosting performance. This partnership will allow Infosys to accelerate its application development by simplifying complex computational projects for its Indian and global customers across industry segments such as Healthcare, Life Sciences, e-Governance, Finance and Medical Science.
