If you happen to be happily in love with dairy, then I strongly recommend that you skip this piece of news. Unless you feel that you can handle a heartbreaking divorce and not being able to ever again talk to a cup of yogurt, that is.

The infographic above, shared with the public by Grist, documents just how much water goes into making different types of dairy.

Apparently, it takes 9 gallons of water to make one glass of soy milk. A glass of almond milk and one of regular milk, on the other hand, come at a price of 23 gallons and 30 gallons of water, respectively.

Regular yogurt, your ordinary cheese and ice cream are not all that environmentally friendly either, the infographic reveals.

However, none of these dairy products is as bad as butter. This is because, according to the graph, it takes 109 gallons of water to make an average stick of butter.

Given the fact that, as shown by several studies, droughts are likely to become a major issue in the not so distant future, provided that climate change and global warming are not limited, perhaps it might not be such a bad idea to try and eat less dairy.
