No word whether the experience will ever be ported to the Xbox 360

Infinity Blade was one of the most successful games launched on the iOS Apple devices, but it seems that initially the game was designed to work on the Kinect motion tracking for the Xbox 360 and only happenstance led to its move to smartphones.

Mark Rein, who is a vice president and one of the co-founders of Epic Games, has stated during a Develop session that, ”We showed very early Unreal Tournament 3 gameplay on iPhone 3GS a few months after the 3GS came out. We decided twin-stick shooters on phones didn’t work. We said to Chair–we want you to make the ‘Shadow Complex of iOS’.”

It’s not clear whether the initial nature of the Infinity Blade mechanics might mean that a version of the game will be released at some point on the Xbox Live Arcade service from Microsoft or whether Epic Games and developers Chair Entertainment only have future plans linked to the iOS.

At the moment the two companies are working on the Dungeons spin-off, which is set to be launched later during the year and will serve as a prequel to the two titles in the series that are already out.

Mark Rein also talked about the Big Huge Games team that Epic Games has recently hired, saying, “A small group of them approached us and were interested in one of our intellectual properties. They said, ‘one of the IPs you have would be perfect for the game we’re making.’ We’d like you to work on that IP too!”

The executive has not revealed which intellectual property the former Big Huge Games employees are working on.

The core Epic Games team is working on Gears of War: Judgment, the final game in the series to be launched on the Xbox 360, which will feature Baird as the main character.

The People Can Fly team is also working on an undisclosed project.
