The same basic premise is there, so veteran fans shouldn't worry

Infamous: Second Son, the upcoming PS4 game from Sucker Punch and Sony, retains the core premise of the franchise, of giving super powers to a regular individual, but it makes some serious changes in terms of controls while bringing forth a more realistic world.

Infamous games amazed PS3 owners in recent years, delivering fun experiences that allowed players to control Cole MacGrath and his array of awesome super powers.

In Second Son, a new protagonist is revealed, in the form of Delsin Rowe, who gains control of new powers and must decide, with the help of the player, what to do with them.

This core premise ensures that it's still an Infamous game, according to Sucker Punch's Nate Fox, who talked with VG247.

"We’ve always said that the inFamous series is about an everyday guy who gets super powers and decides if he wants to use them for good or evil and that’s still true in Second Son – except – we’ve tried even harder to make the world relatable, true and grounded so that these super powers are plausible, you believe in them," he said.

"The game world does react to you. You make choices throughout the game with pretty serious consequences, so that serious choice and consequence theme is still there. You matter in that world."

While there's the same basic concept, Sucker Punch made a wide array of modifications to things like the controls, by examining skateboard games, and by making the world and its characters feel more lifelike.

"Where we’re trying to break new ground on, frankly, is really integrated powers that are totally intuitive in how you use them," he added. "We redesigned the control interface so that people who are not expert players can pull of spectacular moves, as well as putting time into trying to make our narrative as potent as possible."

"A lot of that comes from doing facial motion capture so we can get these very nuances performances from the actors. All of those things come together to make it easier to get sucked into the screen and lose yourself in the moment."

Infamous: Second Son is set to debut this year only for the PS4.
