It may seem that this year Santa was a little bit too merry in Poland as he crashed his sleigh on a busy high street and ended up in the hospital with a serious concussion. The inebriated Father Christmas and his female helper lost control of their horse while waving to the crowds, and ended up flying off their sleigh in the middle of the road.

The two festive characters were hospitalized after erratically traveling in a horse-drawn sleigh under the influence of alcohol. The pair was hired to make an appearance at a Christmas event in Ustrzykach Dolnych, Poland and to everyone's disappointment, they proved to be some shameful performers.

The 51-year-old Santa and his 31-year-old companion were going down the street in the festive sleigh, singing and waving, when the horse was startled by a car horn sound and crashed into a wall, throwing the pair on the road.

The two suffered concussions and were immediately hospitalized in order to avoid any major consequences. Father Christmas and his helper were visibly drunk and will be facing drink driving charges.

“Technically, they were drunk while in charge of a vehicle on the road,” the local police precinct's spokesman says, according to The Independent.

People were outraged with Santa's drunken performance and were happy to know that he couldn't go through with it. Being so drunk, he could have shocked and ruined the kids' favorite holiday character, not to mention the embarrassment the town market would have had to deal with.

“They were supposed to have been an attraction at the local market and lots of people were taking their children there to go and see them. But instead they saw these two, who were clearly under the influence, behaving like they had just come out of a nightclub or something,” one eyewitness told The Independent.

Overindulging with the holiday spirit caused the two to spend Christmas in the hospital with some severe headaches, and not only from the concussion, but from the amount of alcohol consumed as well.
