Indonesia’s Minister of Communications and Information Technology Tifatul Sembiring has revealed that most of the cyberattacks aimed at government infrastructures come from South Korea, China, Russia and the United States.

According to Tempo.co, the minister has highlighted the fact that the most dangerous attacks are the ones in which the hackers attempt to steal sensitive information. On the other hand, Tifatul notes that such cyberattacks are a constant reminder that cybersecurity needs to be improved.

The minister said that a total of 36 million attacks were launched against government websites.

Earlier this year, hackers managed to breach several government websites, including the ones of the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Justice and Human Rights Ministry, the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry, the Indonesian Embassy in Tashkent, the Central Statistics Agency, and the Business Competition Supervisory Commission.

The attacks came in response to the arrest of a 22-year-old accused of hacking the website of Indonesia’s president.
