Hacking a computer does not use tactics you have never heard about. To me, the Internet is just like a war zone and hacking a PC is like sending in a commando to destroy an enemy base.
Crack and hack schemes are similar to many army activities and here are a few things on how to hack a personal computer.
Just like in real warfare, the first and best thing to do, is scout ahead... So what a hacker needs to do first is find a vulnerable computer that can be easily taken down. If one wanted to hack a well-defended PC, there are two things that could be done, either try and make it weak and attack it as a normal vulnerable computer, or launch a massive attack that will succeed at some time. See? Just like real war.
Now, when attacking a certain target, there are two possible ways of doing this: There is the "Hulk Smash!" method which means that the hacker will use a program that will crack the machine's passwords. And there's the sneaky way as well, using one program's flaws to bypass security systems and cause damage. This is why you need to patch up your programs whenever vulnerabilities are disclosed. This is just another thing that resembles real life!
And guess what, hackers are divided into 2 categories, normal and expert, just like soldiers, the typical GI and the well trained commando. The normal hacker will use programs found on the web (either free or payed) to hack your machine, while the expert will create its own, just like special army units can build a bomb out of a cellphone, a little powder and some nails!
So, there is nothing new with the tactics - the only new thing is the environment, but the schemes are old. Taking a look at things this way, it has just become clearer that cyberwar will be the warfare's face of the future!
