A man from Michigan City, Indiana was struck by an Amtrak train on Friday. The train hit him as it was doing 110 mph (177 kph), but he survived the impact.

According to the Northwest Indiana Times, 22-year-old Darryle See was listening to music on his headphones on Friday as he was walking by the tracks.

When the Amtrak train conductor noticed him, he sounded the horn numerous times and deployed the breaks, but he could not stop the train in time.

''The conductor said it was a straight-on hit.

''I have never seen anything like that before,'' describes Police Maj. John Boyd, who has been on the force for 20 years.

See survived the collision with only minor injuries, despite the train propelling him forward, some 20 feet (6 meters) away from the tracks.

His grandmother, Helen Hugley, details that he does not remember being near to the tracks or the accident itself. Her grandson is recovering and he is in stable condition.

''That's about it, as far as I know so far. [...] He says he doesn't remember anything until he woke up on the other side of the tracks,'' Hugley recalls.

He was in good condition after the accident and could talk to first responders.

''He called us earlier. He talked to me for a few minutes. He's going to make it,'' Hugley says.

''He was conscious and alert, sitting up and talking to us. I never would have guessed he was the victim,'' Boyd adds.

Authorities suggested that he got hit by a slanted portion of the locomotive, which would explain his lack of injuries.

''That's crazy. I can't believe he lived. It's a miracle,'' his neighbor, 26-year-old Jordan Combs, notes.

"God was looking out for him,'' says resident Joey Dompke, 20.
