High officials in the Indian state of Maharashtra have recently agreed that, since poachers will stop at nothing to kill tigers, forest guards should be allowed to go to any lengths to protect these animals.

Thus, they passed a law saying that, when circumstances demand for it, rangers can fire their guns at poachers without worrying about the legal consequences of injuring or even killing them.

Otherwise put, shooting a poacher is no longer considered a crime.

Conservationists welcomed the decision, and said that perhaps this new law would help convince some of these illegal hunters to go looking for a new career.

According to Global Animal, about half of the tigers left to inhabit our planet currently live in India.

Because of this, implementing such extreme measures should yield noteworthy benefits in terms of protecting this endangered species.
