Arvind Mishra, an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at Graphic Era University in Dehradun, India, managed an incredible feat: he broke the Guinness Book record of 121 hours in the non-stop lecturing category.

The 26-year-old teacher delivered a continuous lecture of 139 hours, 42 minutes and 56 seconds on Scientific Computations to a mixed audience of students and teachers, and his impressive talk lasted from March 1 to March 6.

On April 3, the Guinness Book of World Records confirmed that Mr. Mishra was the new record-holder for delivering the world’s longest academic lecture. They described his Marathon Lecture as a continuous, uninterrupted and longest lecture ever recorded.

The Indian professor beat the previous record of 121 hours set by a Polish teacher, named Errol Muzawazi, in 2009. Muzawazi gave a lecture on Democracy and Cultural Dialogue.

“Sharing knowledge, in my opinion, is a wonderful way of giving back what my Gurus have imparted in me. The past couple of years at Graphic Era University have been such an enriching experience that I have decided to dedicate my entire life in this process of sharing and learning,” Mishra said.

According to the Indian Express, the people at Guinness monitored the talk through live streaming.

The Graphic Era University’s Chairman Kamal Ghanshala offered Mishra a cash award of Rs 1 lakh ($1,660/€1,210) and two promotions to reward him for his incredible feat.
