Apple's new iPhone 3G, presented by Steve Jobs on the 9th of June, will be available in India too, besides the other 70 global markets where it's planned to be released. Unfortunately, India won't be among the first 23 countries that will get the iPhone 3G on July 11, thus Indian users will probably have to wait until August or maybe even September in order to be able to buy Apple's new handset.

Two of India's largest mobile operators, Airtel and Vodafone, have both announced they will offer the iPhone 3G, and now users can pre-register on the carriers' websites for the fancy touchscreen smarpthone. Sure, this doesn't mean that they'll get the new iPhone anytime soon, but only when it becomes available.

According to Vodafone, those who pre-register for an iPhone 3G on its websites will be the first to have the handset in India, which probably means that the V carrier plans to release Apple's device sooner than Airtel.

Regardless of who will offer it first, both Airtel and Vodafone are bringing the iPhone 3G in its 8GB and 16GB editions, the first coming only in black while the second in black or white.

For the moment, neither Vodafone nor Airtel have announced the prices for which iPhone 3G will be available. The handset will probably have prices slightly lower than the ones from the US and Europe, as most of the phones released in India, the second largest mobile market in the world, come for lower prices, in order to attract as many users as possible.

Compared to the first-generation iPhone, iPhone 3G is definitely better, as it brings extra features like GPS, Microsoft Exchange and access to App Store. Plus, it also has a better-looking case. As for the 3G connectivity (missing in the first iPhone), India will not be able to enjoy it too soon, because at the moment it doesn't have any network to support 3G frequencies.
