Our Incoming 2015 series focuses on the most important game launches of the next 12 months, and next up we talk about one of the most anticipated PS4 exclusives of the new year – Uncharted 4: A Thief's End – coming from Naughty Dog and Sony.

What we know

Uncharted 4: A Thief's End promises to tell a new chapter in the story of protagonist Nathan Drake. Considering that the project is now helmed by the creators of The Last of Us, Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley, you can expect a much more serious story than the ones seen in past installments that were written by Amy Hennig.

Rumors are already claiming that one of Drake's longtime partners, Victor "Sully" Sullivan, might end up meeting his demise, but right now at least, the studio is staying quiet on all the plot details.

However, the developer showcased quite a bit of gameplay footage last month, during the PlayStation Experience event. In it, you can admire the quite impressive graphics but also the pretty standard Uncharted mechanics that rely on traversing the environment in different ways, exploring lush and wild caves, and shooting at different mercenaries and enemies that are also roaming around the place.

The visuals seem to be quite good but it's going to be interesting to see if the studio can maintain the quality level when the game is actually released towards the end of the year.

Naughty Dog already has experience with the PlayStation 4 console, thanks to The Last of Us Remastered, so fans are feeling confident.

Why it matters

Naughty Dog is one of the best video game development studios in the world, and after quite a few big departures, it's up to Uncharted 4 to prove that the team still has that "magic" element that can delight millions upon millions of fans from around the world.

The Uncharted games have delivered great third-person shooter experiences over the years on the PS3 and even the PS Vita, and considering that a movie is set to happen at some point in time, Uncharted 4: A Thief's End might prove to be instrumental in getting that project off the ground.

You can expect to hear much more about the new game at upcoming events such as E3 2015 in June.

Uncharted 4 is expected to launch in fall of 2015 for the PS4, but as of right now, no time frame or release estimate has been given by Naughty Dog or Sony.
