Our Incoming 2015 series focuses on the most important game launches of the next 12 months, and next up we talk about one of the most anticipated adventure games of recent times, Syberia 3.

What we know

The original two installments in the point-and-click adventure series have become cult classics of the genre. Original developer Microids is now working on a third installment, after more than 10 years of hiatus.

Benoit Sokal, the writer behind the original two games, is back in the saddle as a creative director, while Elliot Grassiano will take care of gameplay mechanics. The duo was the driving force behind the first installments, highly lauded by fans of the genre.

The developer has so far released some screenshots from the project, available below. The sneak peek at the upcoming game’s world was offered at Gamescom 2014, so they’re pretty fresh, all things considered, and point out the fact that the dev team is hard at work.

The images, available in the gallery below, show a bazaar and some hairy camels, telling that the action will pick up where Syberia 2 left things. Microids has been pretty quiet when it comes to the details of the upcoming adventure, but given its pedigree, we should be in for quite a ride.

The only details provided were that Kate is now living with the Youkul people, following them during their transhumance journey and learning more about their culture and adjusting to their ways.

Why it matters

The first games were launched in 2002 and 2004, and many fans of the original are eagerly waiting to see where the new adventure will take protagonist Kate Walker.

Syberia is considered one of the best examples of intelligent adventure games, having exciting mechanics and an intriguing plot, and pretty much everyone is wondering how a modern incarnation would look.

The developers made sure to let everyone know that the upcoming adventure would be much more complicated than what players experienced over the course of Syberia and Syberia 2, but writer Benoit Sokal refrained from getting into specific details.

The game was first announced back in 2009, so it’s been a long time in the making. Initially, the development process ran into some hurdles, and many gamers feared that it would spell the end for the series, but fortunately, in late 2013, the announcement that Syberia 3 had gone into production dispelled their fears.

Syberia 3 is scheduled for release sometime during 2015, as a multiplatform game coming to PC, Mac, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, iOS and Android.
