Our Incoming 2015 series focuses on the most important game launches of the next 12 months, and next up we talk about one of the most anticipated survival horror titles of the year – Resident Evil: Revelations 2 – developed and published by Capcom.

What we know

Resident Evil titles haven't gone through the best of times recently, but the Revelations installment managed to win over quite a few longtime fans and new ones through its emphasis on survival horror. As such, Capcom is now getting ready to debut Resident Evil: Revelations 2, a sequel of sorts to the first game.

While the original title featured franchise favorites Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield, the new one brings forth another fan favorite, Claire Redfield, but also an all-new character, in the form of Moira Burton, daughter of series veteran Barry Burton.

The two women are abducted and taken to an abandoned prison that, as you can imagine, is crawling with zombie-like monsters. They must work together to escape, while dodging and killing different creatures and assembling clues as to what actually happened to them.

The game is an episodic experience, as four different chapters will be released throughout a month, but fans can purchase them as a bundle and score extra goodies.

Besides the story mode, Revelations 2 also features a cooperative Raid mode in which players must survive for as long as possible while completing objectives in different environments form the game.

Why it matters

Resident Evil games have recently gone in some action-oriented directions but Revelations 1 proved that the series could still pull off atmospheric survival horror. As such, Revelations 2 is critical to keeping the series on this classic route. If it doesn't sell well or gain traction, you can bet that the Japanese studio is once again ready to reboot the series and try other things to capture new fans.

While the premise isn't that original and the story is expected to have a bit of tongue-in-cheek situations, the atmosphere is looking really good, with vicious monsters and creepy locations.

As such, it seems that Revelations 2 might once again bring forth a great survival horror experience.

Resident Evil: Revelations 2 episode 1 launches on February 17, in North America, and February 18, in Europe and the rest of the world across PC, PS3, PS4, PS Vita, Xbox 360, and Xbox One.
