Our Incoming 2015 series focuses on the most important game launches of the next 12 months, and next up we talk about one of the most anticipated open-world games of the year – Just Cause 3 – made by Avalanche Studios and published by Square Enix.

What we know

Just Cause 3 is the next installment in Avalanche Studios' open-world franchise and promises to take all the great elements from Just Cause 2 and expand on them in different ways, while improving the actual environments.

Just Cause 2 became a cult hit largely because of its large world and the insane combination of a grappling hook and a parachute that could be wielded by protagonist Rico Rodgriguez. This quickly led to crazy combinations and massive explosions, which were only expanded upon when PC users created a multiplayer mode with the blessing of the Avalanche team.

Just Cause 3 takes players to a brand new environment, in the form of a Mediterranean island, that, while boasting a similar size to that of the tropical one from Just Cause 2, features improved scenery, caves, and much more.

The grappling hook and parachute combo are back, and Avalanche promises to drastically improve upon them to ensure that players have even more things to do in the game's open world. A special wingsuit is also promised, so expect plenty of mayhem through the skies of Just Cause 3.

Given that Avalanche has worked for a long time on the game, expect also some enhanced visuals and plenty of other mechanics to keep things fun. Unfortunately, there will be no multiplayer mode, although it's possible that fans might create a mod for it, at least on the PC platform.

Why it matters

Just Cause 2 turned players into children in a sandbox, giving them basic tools and allowing them to do all sorts of crazy things. Just Cause 3, with its improved mechanics, better visuals, and enhanced gameplay promises to elevate the experience to a higher level.

While a multiplayer mode out of the box might have been quite good, Avalanche should be praised for sticking to what it knows and trying to deliver a great experience.

Just Cause 3 is scheduled to launch sometime this year for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms.
