What we know:

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is the last chapter in the RPG series made by Polish developer CD Projekt Red starring the iconic Geralt of Rivia protagonist.

The first game delivered a bold experiment with lots of fresh mechanics that breathed new life into the RPG genre. The second one, Assassins of Kings, showed just what the studio was capable of, delivering a stunning experience both in terms of gameplay and visuals.

With The Witcher 3, CD Projekt Red wants to deliver its magnum opus, the definitive experience in the series that ties up the story of Geralt but also shows just how big of an impact the decisions of players from The Witcher 2 had on the world.

Speaking of the world, the new title promises to deliver a full-fledged open one that's filled with different locations, characters, and monsters for Geralt to interact with.

As always, the powerful Witcher can use his trusty swords to take out rivals but also new and improved magic signs as well as more acrobatic fighting moves.

Throw in the huge amount of content promised by the Polish studio and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt seems to be the definitive RPG of 2014.

Why it matters:

The Witcher series has delivered its own brand of RPG action for some time now and CD Projekt Red showed a great attitude of thinking outside the box.

With Wild Hunt, it's added quite a few big new features, like the open world or the much bigger scope, and from what we've seen so far, the gambit is paying off.

What's more, thanks to the overhauled RedEngine 3, the game is looking even more stunning and should bring a great experience across all of its platforms.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt launches later this year for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms.
