There is indeed no limitation to what a contemporary design could ever be and the fields in which such ideas would be put into practice are innumerable, from medicine to education and even down to the most basic activities such as dining. Now, you definitely shouldn't go that far and think about the food replicators in TV series like Star Trek or Eureka, but to a very interesting place in London, called Inamo.
Based in the western end of the UK capital city, the Inamo restaurant&bar has become famous thanks to its interior designed by Blacksheep.
Apart from the rather futuresque and utterly stylish design of the restaurant's interior, it’s the contained technology that matters most. Now, we've introduced you to the
EPOS wireless, touchscreen cash-register a few days ago; well, there are even more astonishing things than that one at Inamo! Namely, a completely interactive and realistic, user-controlled menu presentation, with everything projected onto the very tabletops.
The projectors will beam a wide assortment of visual data on the tables, which are covered in a high-tech "e-cloth"; customers will use the e-clothed tabletops as large touchscreens to select their courses, beverages, look up for local information or services (cabs for example), change the ambiance and design of their individual tables and even play some games while they are waiting for the food.
It's not very clear what's happening when the e-cloth gets dirty and how it would be cleaned (or will it simply be e-washed?), but I guess the designers of this technology have already thought about a feasible solution for such problems. Even more, it's to be expected that food should arrive fast enough because it's rather hard to be hungry and watch the picture of your food projected on your plate while you're waiting. And for some people gaming can't replace feeding.
In any case, if you are planning a trip to London and feel like seeing for yourselves what the future of dining looks like, you could definitely pay a visit to Inamo – you'll find it in Soho, 134-136 Wardour Street. Bon appetite! For further pictures and info you can go
