Studio Mono has started their official Steam Greenlight and Kickstarter campaigns, intending to garner support for their project InSomnia, a single-player and cooperative multiplayer role-playing game that's set in a dieselpunk sandbox world.

The action takes place on a colossal space ship that's almost deserted after a 400-year journey, in search of a new home for humankind. The gargantuan space station, known as The Ark, is trudging toward a distant planet known as the Evacuation Point, as the Kickstarter presentation informs.

Most of the station has been abandoned during the long journey, and the little of it that remains populated is inhabited by the Nomans, the descendants of a race that escaped their home planet in order to get away from a cataclysmic conflict with another race.

The story puts you in the shoes of an adventurer just waking up from cryogenic sleep, and you can pretty much do whatever strikes your fancy when it comes to how you approach the game, as in typical role-playing game fashion, you can elect to become from the world's best hope to a lowly scoundrel intent on ushering in the Apocalypse, or at least one of its close relatives.

One of the most striking aspects of the game is the dieselpunk noir styling of its retro-futuristic visuals, with a ton of man-made industrial apocalypse scenery that embodies the echoes of a post-war civilization.

InSomnia features tactical real-time combat, where hundreds of different skills and abilities come together in order to offer an immense level of freedom, complete with an in-depth crafting system that will churn out countless customizable items and equipment, custom tailored to suit each and every play style.

Players will have to survive the harsh environment, facing starvation and extreme weather conditions, as well as temporary injuries that have to be treated before they permanently affect the character's wellbeing.

The game tries to break away from the mold of leveling and character classes, by offering a flexible upgrade system that encourages unorthodox approaches. In addition to this, the game also challenges players to understand the mistakes of the past and even sends them back in time in order to attempt to correct some of them and influence the present.

Apart from the main storyline, the game features randomly generated events and missions in both single player and co-op, making each playthrough unique and surprising, and offering a wealth of non-linear quests and missions for players to tackle, each of which can be solved in a variety of different ways.

The developer intends to have the game released during Q4 2015, on PC, Mac and Linux, should the necessary funding goal be attained.
