Gamers will be able to feel like they are exploring a real place

The development team at Sucker Punch working on the upcoming InFamous: Second Son says that a big part of its time and resources has been spent making sure that the city featured in the game would be as life-like as possible.

Brian Fleming, the studio co-founder and a producer on Second Son, tells the official PlayStation Blog that his studio has put as many people as possible on the streets and has also tried to get them to behave as naturally as possible.

He explains, “There’s a lot of combat in the game, and pedestrians do as pedestrians do in real life: run away! So when you’re in heavy combat, you shouldn’t expect to see lots of people wandering around. There’s a balance to strike between having the city feel lively, but also have pedestrians behaving realistically.”

It’s unclear how much the player will be able to actually hurt the pedestrians in InFamous: Second Son.

Fleming also says that a lot of the city infrastructure included in the game will be open to destruction, as long as players have the time to notice it during combat or exploration.

He adds, “You’ve seen some of this in the demos we’ve done. This stuff was designed to break in the most spectacular way we could manage. It’s all simulated, multi-stage breakables — so if you blow up one corner of something, the whole thing topples over and smashes to the ground. That’s been a lot of fun to work on.”

The developer also says that Sucker Punch has tried to copy as much of the feeling of being in Seattle as possible, which means that the game will include plenty of rainy moments and a lot of water-soaked streets.

He also emphasizes that InFamous: Second Son does not aim to create an accurate weather sim and is actively changing the weather in various scenes in order to suit the feelings of the main characters and the tone of the story.

It’s unclear whether the weather effects will have any sort of impact on the powers of the protagonist.

The game is currently set to be launched exclusively on the PlayStation 4 from Sony on March 21 of this year worldwide.

It was originally set to be one of the launch titles for the Sony home console, but it was delayed by the publisher in order to make sure that the quality of the experience reflected the ambitions of the series.
