The team is aware that some long-term fans are disappointed

Nate Fox, the game director of InFamous: Second Son, says that his team tried to introduce innovation in the game, while also pushing forward the mechanics that players knew from the first two titles in the franchise.

The team's decisions were not totally welcomed by the community and, according to Edge, many fans believed that Delsin was in many ways unconnected to the game world he was exploring.

Nate Fox states, “We certainly wanted to keep that core climbing ability that we had in the first two games, but because we wanted to make buildings of much greater height and variation, we wanted to give you powers that gave you the freedom to move very quickly up and down them. And while you can climb, we didn’t think it was going to be a primary mode of interaction.”

He adds, “we decided that people would probably get more joy, ultimately, if we refined what we call ‘supernavigation’ – moves like when you smokedash through a vent and it pops you out – and make that feel good. We thought that would bring people more satisfaction than trying to meticulously scrutinize every windowsill, although we did try to make them good.”

InFamous: Second Son was launched on March 21 of this year on Western markets exclusively on the PlayStation 4 home console from Sony and it will be coming to Japan later in the month.

The game was mostly well received by players and managed to sell more than 1 million copies in nine days, making it the fastest selling title in the series so far.

The launch of InFamous: Second Son helped the PlayStation 4 to stay ahead of the Xbox One in terms of hardware sales in the United States and the United Kingdom despite the launch of the high-profile exclusive Titanfall.

Neither the team at Sucker Punch nor publisher Sony has talked about the future of the series so far.

Given the solid sales of the most recent launch, a new title is probably already in the early stages of the development process and might be launched later next year.

Sucker Punch has also suggested that it might have another PlayStation 4 title in development for the coming period.

Sony has also explained that it wants to create a range of high-profile exclusive titles for its next-gen console, as long as they can secure a long-term fan base.
