inFamous 2 has been announced and will feature on the next cover of the Game Informer magazine. The game is developed by Sucker Punch, the team that made the first title. This confirms the rumor started in April, when Sony registered the Infamous2TheGame.com web domain. More information about this game will probably be available next week at E3 2010.

The few details that are known about the title mention that the protagonist, Cole MacGrath, has a new look and that he will get a new city to save or damn. The personality of Cole will also be overhauled. Matthias Lorenz says that Sucker Punch wanted the character to be a really good main hero, so it decided that the original grumpiness should be left behind in the sequel. Moreover, a new powerful villain will face the electric superhero in inFamous 2. A new actor will be cast to voice Cole, as Jason Cottle, the original one, will not return.

inFamous, the original PlayStation 3 exclusive, is a superhero open-world action-adventure and revolves around a bike messenger, Cole MacGrath, who accidentally gets electricity superpowers, after an explosion of a bio-electrical device called the Ray-Sphere. Players have the choice to make Cole either a hero or a villain, while they decide the fate of the city that he roams. The title also contains a powerful comic-book aesthetic that was meant to contribute to the superhero theme and that was praised by many reviewers.

Sucker Punch is a developer expert at handling comic book-inspired games. The series that preceded inFamous was called Sly Cooper and it spawn three critically acclaimed games and a number of real-world graphic novels. The titles consisted of a combination of stealth and platforming and were exclusively developed for the PlayStation 2.
