I don't think that there's an official competition out there regarding just which of the numerous PMPs available on the market nowadays is the slimmest, but if it were, the Topway TOM-019 would certainly have one of the best chances of getting this title. However, that would probably be the only title it would ever get, since this PMP of certain Chinese origins, despite providing certain very interesting features, it will probably never leave the far-east shores of Hong Kong in order to pursue a worldwide
career.
As you've been able to see time and time again over the past few years, the Chinese companies have a very..."peculiar" way of designing products, namely by copying, to some extent, western products. That's not necessarily the case with the TOM-019 (although this thing does look like a mobile phone from a certain angle), which sports an brushed-aluminum casing, a relatively large display (1.8-inches) and loads of other components, all crammed-up in an extremely slim form factor: just 72 mm x 39 mm x 6 mm, at a weight of around 26 grams.
As mentioned earlier, the device from Topway provides quite an extensive number of features, which, however, are common to most PMPs released over the past few months. Thus, the TOM-019 can play music in MP3, WAV, WMA file formats, but can also be used for viewing video clips in the MPEG 1, 2, 2.5, 4 formats. Moreover, the media player also incorporates an FM tuner, which can be used for receiving radio broadcasts in the 87.5 - 108MHz frequency range.
The Topway TOM-019 also allows users to view photos in BMP, JPG and GIF formats, as well as e-books in the TXT format. Moreover, it features a built-in phone book, as well as a digital recorder (recordings saved in MP3 format), runs on a built-in Lithium battery (no info on the provided battery life, unfortunately) and is available in 128 MB - 2 GB versions.
Unfortunately, the company is only selling this thing en-gross, so we can't provide you with an actual price (at least for the time being).
We are just a few, but there are many of you, Softpedia users, out there.
