Verizon Wireless and Research In Motion have come up with a new offering for the US mobile users who like their smartphones in pink: BlackBerry Pearl 8130 and BlackBerry Curve 8330 are now available in the just-mentioned fashionable color and can be bought from the V carrier.

The pink Pearl is available as of now, both online and in Verizon's stores from across the US, being priced at $79.99 with a two-year contract agreement. The pink Curve, on the other hand, can be acquired only online for the time being, while Verizon's stores will get it starting August 15; its price is $99.99 - with the same contract for two years, of course.

Until now, BlackBerry Curve and BlackBerry Pearl were offered by Verizon only in silver/black color versions, so the pink ones represent more than welcome additions to the carrier's lineup of RIM-made devices.

Verizon says that the new pretty-colored BlackBerry smarthpones are mainly targeted at college students, as the handsets can help them "make a statement and be more productive in the classroom when they head back to campus this fall."

Pink color aside, the freshly-released BlackBerry handsets are not at all different from their previous versions. Consequently, they come packed with the same features.

The Pearl 8130 packs, among others, a SureType QWERTY keypad, a 240 x 260 pixels screen, VZ Navigator, Digital Media Player, a 2 Megapixel camera with flash and video, Web browser, email and microSD card slot.

BlackBerry Curve 8330 comes with a full QWERTY keyboard and a larger display (320 x 240 pixels) but, besides these aspects, its capabilities are pretty similar to the ones of the Pearl 8130.

All in all, it's certainly a good thing that Verizon is now offering more color choices for its subscribers, and I guess the carrier will soon come up with even more new options.
