Figures shared with the public by the American Wind Energy Association indicate that, last year, wind turbines operating across the United States' territory helped the country's power sector cut its overall carbon emissions by over 5%.

Specifically, specialists with the American Wind Energy Association claim that last year's wind power production in the United States translated into a 126.8 million-ton drop in carbon emissions.

According to Think Progress, it is estimated that this drop in carbon emissions documented in said country back in 2013 was the equivalent of taking about 20 million pollution vehicles off roads.

By the looks of it, the states that reported the most impressive drops in carbon emissions were as follows: Texas, Illinois, California, and Colorado.

Apart from helping cut carbon emissions, the United States' wind power industry also delivered significant benefits in terms of improving on overall air quality.

More precisely, the intense use of this clean energy source brought down sulfur dioxide emissions by 347 million pounds, and nitrous oxide emissions by about 214 million pounds.

Both these compounds have been shown to contaminate the air that people breathe in and water sources. Hence, it can be argued that wind power in the United States is helping protect not just the environment but also public health.
