This is a classic example of deliberate karmic rebalancing

Valentin Boanta is a hacker that is serving a term in prison for supplying gadgets to an organized crime gang used to conceal ATM skimmers.

Now, either because of boredom or regret, the man has developed an add-on that will prevent ATMs from being skimmed ever again.

It took him six months, but he eventually finished the SRS, which is short for Secure Revolving System.

Easily attachable to any ATM machine, it changes the way the card is read, preventing skimmers from reading the info.

As he explains it, Reuters reports, the SRS required people to insert the card widthwise before rotating it to be inserted into the ATM.

Since skimmers work by reading the card's magnetic tape lenghtwise and in a sequential order, this effectively neuters them. I wouldn't be surprised if someone invents a counter to this device, but they'll have their work cut out for them.
