The HXi family has up to 1000W output and a fully modular cabling system

There isn't much point to allowing the motherboard cable to be totally detached from a power supply, since it will always be used, but companies make fully modular PSUs anyway. Corsair has just released a series of them in fact.

Although that is not an altogether accurate thing to say, since the power supply collection, called Corsair HXi, was actually introduced back in June, during the Computex trade show that took place in Taipei, Taiwan.

Fully modular power supply units are not exactly rare, but they are far from common. And because of their status as “luxury” feature, they are only found on the best PSUs in the world.

Some models closer to the middle ground have them too, of course, but only in partial form. But we digress. Right now, we are here to talk about the Corsair HXi line of 80 Plus Platinum-certified power supplies.

The 80 Plus Platinum specification means that a power supply has an operational efficiency of 90% at 20% load, 92% at 50% load, and 89% at 100% load. Well, on 115V internal non-redundant power anyway.

When plugged into a 230V internal redundant power socket, the PSU has an efficiency of 90%, 94%, and 91%, respectively. Basically, it wastes less than a tenth of the available energy.

Corsair's power supplies are called HX750i, HX850i, and HX1000i, due to their wattages of 750W, 850W, and 1000W, respectively.

All three are backed by 7-year warranties, which is a very long time for such products, and warranties in general in fact.

The reason Corsair is confident enough to promise such extended support is because of the 100% Japanese electrolytic capacitors rated at 105°C, as well as the over-voltage, under-voltage, over-power, over-temperature, and short circuit protection.

As for cooling, the company has made sure not to cut any corners here either. The 140 mm fluid dynamic bearing will can disperse any heat, but only if it is needed. You see, it also has a ZeroRPM mode, when it doesn't spin at all. It's useful, efficient, and silent when the PC places very little load on the power supply.

The Corsair HX750i, HX850i, and HX1000i PSUs of 750W, 850W, and 1000W have prices of $170 / €170, $190 / €190, and $230 / €230, respectively. As for the aesthetics, Corsair didn't much bother with visual embellishments. All PSUs are black with some blue on the labels, but they're otherwise normal on the outside.
