Impossible was founded in 2008 after purchasing the last factory in the world that manufactured Polaroid instant film and, with the help of 10 former employees, the company started to invent and produce new instant film materials for Polaroid cameras.

Recently, Impossible announced the availability of three color films as part of a new special edition series specifically designed to work with the Polaroid SX-70 Land automatic, folding, SLR instant camera.

Revealed in 1972 by Polaroid founder Edwin Land, the Polaroid SX-70 Land camera was the first of its kind to use self-developing instant film.

“The Polaroid SX-70 camera has earned its place as a true cultural icon. Even in this digital age, there is still a thriving community of photographers around the world shooting with the SX-70 and we are excited to be able to support them with an ever-evolving family of new instant film products,” said Creed O’Hanlon, Impossible's Berlin-based CEO.

While in 2008 Polaroid announced that the company would no longer produce instant films for all its cameras, Impossible was capable to develop its own instant film formula and launched three years later a new product that would save millions of Polaroid SX-70 cameras from becoming obsolete.

The newly introduced Special Edition of instant color films includes Color SX-70 Gold Frame, Color SX-70 Silver Frame, and Color SX-70 Color Frames film.

“This new series of special edition instant films is not only our way of celebrating this truly legendary camera but also ensuring it lives on,” noted Creed O’Hanlon.

In 2013, the Impossible teams in Monheim, Germany and Enschede, The Nederlands, started an 18-month Research and Development program to improve the current SX-70 color film quality and, at the same time, increase processing speed.

Impossible Special Edition Polaroid SX-70 color films are now available for purchase from the Impossible Online Shop at a price of €51 / $70.
