Delicious, though reaching a venerable age by internet standards, is still quite popular with a lot of people, as the whole Yahoo fiasco in December showed. At the time, rumors hinted at Delicious' imminent closure, leading to a lot of panicked users and a lot of opportunistic competitors.

Google is a bit late to the game, but it too launched a Delicious importer which enables users to take the bookmarks they've gathered over the years and move them to Google Bookmarks.

Google hasn't made much of a fuss over the new import tool, but it has announced it on its official Twitter account.

"Feed Google Bookmarks something 'Delicious'" - import your Delicious bookmarks now," Google tweeted.

The tool is rather straightforward to use especially if you've merged your Delicious account with your Yahoo one. In this case, with the help of OAuth, it only takes a couple of steps to authorize the export of data. If you're still using an old Delicious account, you will have to provide the credentials.

Delicious was founded in 2003 as a social, web-based bookmarking service. It enables users to save bookmarks, to find them later but also share them with friends. It also makes it easier to discover new stuff from other peoples' bookmarks as well.

It was acquired by Yahoo in 2005, though it hasn't seen too many developments since. Despite this, it has continued to be popular with plenty of users.

Late last year, rumors surfaced that Yahoo was going to shut down Delicious. Users, a lot of them, were quite worried and made it known. Yahoo came out and denied that Delicious was going to be shut down, saying that it is going to be sold instead.

This wasn't enough to placate most users and there were plenty of competing services that sprung up offering alternatives. Google Bookmarks hasn't been faring much better than Delicious, but it too has a sizeable audience.
