Imgur Gets a Revamp, Tries to Cut Out Reddit, Twitter

Imgur, the site that everyone uses but few people know about is getting a revamp to make it more of a destination than just the place that hosts all the memes images you see flying around. The change makes sense, the trick is actually getting people to shift their view of the site.

The obvious reason for this is that getting people to come more often and stay on the site means it can make more ad money.

The big change is that now, users can upload photos directly to the site and don't have to "share" them anywhere else for them to be seen.

They can mark them as "public" and have them shared to the Gallery which lists all popular images at any given time. This means other users can discover the image right on imgur and don't have to arrive at the site from other places.

The Gallery is now also the homepage and you will be able to browse through the popular images of the moment. You can choose from the newest, hottest or top images of the day and sort them by time, score or virality.
