SSD Upgrade Kits make the HDD-SSD migration possible in three easy steps

Aware of the end users' progressive adoption of solid state drives over hard drives, Imation took the chance to provide its customers with a quick and easy way to switch from the old hard disk(s) to new SSDs, which are superior in every way to the outdated HDDs. Imation's 2.5” M-Class SSD Upgrade Kit removes most worries concerning data loss and other complications that may arise when trying to make such a change.

The first step implies connecting the SSD to the computer and transferring all the files from the old hard drive on the new solid-state drive. Then the second phase comes, namely the placement of the SSD inside the casing, instead of the hard drive. The third step is possible through a SATA-USB bonus case, which actually allows the old hard disk to play the part of an external hard drive, portable and connected via USB for extra storage options.

As one can easily notice, there is hardly anything complicated about the installment. All it takes is for the interested end-users to know what a hard disk and SSD are what they look like and how to remove a screw or two. This fully explains the award-winning status of this kit's predecessor: it offered even those unschooled in hardware an approachable method for upgrading their systems.

“With our improved M-Class SSD Upgrade Kit, only Imation has provided users with an unique case and method to upgrade to SSD and convert the remaining HDD drive into a portable USB drive, while taking full advantage of the benefits inherent in solid state technology,” said Subodh Kulkarni, senior vice president, Global Commercial Business, Imation. “We have simplified the migration path for all those who wish to get the most out of their systems using SSD.”

The kit comes with one M-Class 2.5-inch solid-state drive. Imation's drives have been updated, now reaching sequential read speeds of up to 230 MB/s and write speeds of 170MB/s. The company's storage units use sophisticated error detection algorithms while also using the most advanced Global Wear Leveling technology, which increases overall endurance of the products (by uniformly distributing P/E (Program/Erase) cycles across all cells in the SSD). In addition, the whole product has an intuitive design, with a unique case allowing for the aforementioned transformation of the HDD into an external storage drive.

The M-Class Upgrade Kit has a 2.5-inch form factor and may come with an SSD of either 64 and 128GB. Prices are set to start from $195.
