The Japanese company Imation has just presented two new lines of server products on its website. One is the T5R Tower with five 3.5” SATA HDD bays plus one Imation RDX cartridge slot for tape backup, and the other is the 1U rack-mountable R4 1U  with only four 3.5” SATA bays.

The T5R Tower comes in two variants, the T5R-5X1TB-HDD, that has five 1TB hard drives for a total of 5TB of storage capacity, and the T5R-5X2TB-HDD with 10TB of total storage capacity.

The R4 can be fitted either with four 1TB hard drives and it's called R4-4X1TB-HDD or with 2TB drives for a total capacity of 8TB in which case it’s called R4-4X2TB-HDD.

Both units come with Dual Gigabit Ethernet ports and are powered by the Intel Atom D2700 Dual Core CPU working at 2133 MHz. They have 2 GB of DDR3 memory and the controllers support various RAID modes such as RAID 0, 1, 1 E, 3, 5, 6, 10.

They also come with two USB 3.0 ports and three USB 2.0 ones along with one eSATA port.

The company has not unveiled any pricing information at this time, but we’re sure that these products will probably exceed the expected price range because of the current HDD crisis.

Promotional materials in the distribution channel suggest prices around $2000, so I wouldn't expect these to be cheaper than €1500 in Europe.
