Last week, Imation, one of the leading manufacturers of storage and portable media solutions, introduced two new products, part of the Apollo family of external hard drives. The Apollo Expert and Apollo Pro external hard drives (EHDs) have been designed to deliver an optimum storage solution in a 2.5-inch and 3.5-inch for factor, respectively. In addition, Imation also announced that the Apollo Pro lineup would debut with the introduction of the new Apollo Pro WX, meant to deliver certified USB wireless capability to users that require a strong storage solution, meaning, without having to deal with the inconvenience of a wired connection.

“We design our Apollo EHDs to be utilitarian and iconic,” said Subodh Kulkarni, vice president, Global Commercial Business, R&D and Manufacturing, Imation. “Utilitarian, because Apollo drives deliver the features and pure data storage performance that users need and crave; iconic, because Apollo drives simply look very good. Both lines provide a unique mix of features and benefits in both portable and desktop options, and Imation's Apollo Pro line offers consumers the Apollo Pro WX - an easy-to-use EHD that enables a cable-free, hassle-free workspace.” Kulkarni further explained.

The main differences between the two new product lineups underline the segments for which they have been especially designed. While the 2.5-inch Apollo Expert UX EHD was thought as a portable storage product for users always on the run, the Apollo Pro WX provides a unique solution that eliminates the need for cables. Some of the features include an integrated stand for vertical and horizontal positioning, FireWire and/or eSATA connection, and activity indicator lights.

Regarding availability, the company announced that the new Apollo Expert and Pro external hard drives would be available in Q4 this year, with capacities ranging from 250GB up to an impressive 1.5TB. Unfortunately, no details concerning pricing have been disclosed thus far, but stay tuned here for when they are.
