14 DAY TRIAL // Imation has been seeking to improve the security of its products and services, so it announced, a while ago, that it would be buying IronKey's secure data storage hardware business, a maneuver that has now been finalized.
When trying to expand one's intellectual property, buying another company, or part of it, is often the quickest way.
This is exactly what happened between Imation and IronKey, following months of procedures and paperwork.
Basically, the former, in a bid to gain better security solutions, bought the latter's secure data storage hardware business.
“This acquisition is another important step in Imation’s strategy to grow in the secure and scalable storage markets, augmenting our global leadership position in high-security data storage and device management,” said Mark Lucas, president and chief executive officer, Imation Corp.
“As Imation continues its strategic transformation, we are making key technology investments in growth markets that will enable us to extend our position in data storage, security, archiving, and protection.”
Imation will use IronKey's technologies to expand its portfolio of secure mobile storage offerings, which includes the Defender products (software and hardware management), among others.
The company also made a partnership with IronKey, for it online cloud-based security services.
“With these key acquisitions in secure storage, Imation not only adds important technology, intellectual property, and skill sets, it also welcomes thousands of new enterprise and government customers to our already significant customer base worldwide,” said Lawrence Reusing, general manager, Global Mobile Security for Imation.
