Harmonix and MTV Games, the two gate keepers for content for the Rock Band franchise, have announced that “Imagine”, one of the most important albums from Beatles stars post break up, will be coming as downloadable content for Rock Band 3, the new music simulation title which includes Pro modes and support for keyboards.

Imagine will make full use of the new possibilities of Rock Band 3, with the complex musical arrangements of the musician fully simulated in the game.

John Lennon's Imagine joins an already impressive line up of DLC for the new game, including songs from Bon Jovi, Billy Joel and The Doors, which are offering some of their tracks for free.

Harmonix says that the recent additions mean that fans of the franchise can play more than 2,000 songs from the most important artists in the world and some break through acts.

Paul DeGooyer, who is the senior vice president of electronic games, music and programming for MTV Networks, stated, “The songs on John Lennon's Imagine run the gamut from beautiful piano-driven ballads like ‘Jealous Guy’ to all-out guitar rockers like ‘Gimme Some Truth’.”

He added, “It's an incredible musical statement, and a real workout on keyboard, guitar and vocals in Rock Band 3. We're very excited to confirm it as one of the first downloads for our new game, and to help our fans celebrate John's 70th birthday with its release.”

Rock Band 3 is now out in North America and will lunch on Friday on the European markets and the companies behind it hope that it will do better than its direct rival Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, which apparently disappointed after the September 28 launch date.

The music game genre has recently seen a serious slow down in sales being blamed by some for the overall decrease in overall video games sales.
