Mobile phone maker Motorola has long been rumored to be working on a new high-end Android-based handset that will make an appearance on the market on the airwaves of Verizon Wireless, and now some more info on the matter emerged. The said device, expected to arrive on the market as the DROID 2, can be admired in the photo to the left, while some specifications on it are available below.

The image with Motorola's upcoming handset made it into the wild over at the HowardForums (via phandroid); yet, it seems that it's uncertain whether the phone is indeed the Motorola DROID 2, for it might actually be the Motorola Shadow, another purported Android device Motorola is said to be working on. What we know so far on the two is that the former should sport a sliding QWERTY, in addition to the popular DROID form factor, while the latter should not.

When it comes to the specifications that emerged now on the handset, we can count a tablet form factor, a 4.1-inch TFT touchscreen display that should boast an FWVGA resolution, a Texas Instruments OMAP 3630 Processor inside, 2GB of internal memory (although the original source notes 2MB, which might be a typo), and an 8-megapixel photo snapper that should sport 720p video recording capabilities.

Other specifications on the new device include 1080p output via HDMI port, a form factor that is only 9mm thick, and the Android 2.1 operating system on board, though it might soon be upgraded to the brand new Android 2.2 (Froyo) flavor. One thing that is certain is that the specs match up pretty well with the previously leaked info on Shadow, though DROID 2 is said to sport them as well.

One way or the other, since the phone is said to be slated for a July release, it might not be too long before official details on the matter emerge, and we should be able to tell for sure which handset this is. Keep an eye on this space for more updates on the matter.
