Google's supremacy on the search engines market is guaranteed for a long while from now on. The case of France, which is one of the most devoted markets to Google's search engine, supports this affirmation. A study provided by comScore reveals that, in May, 82% of the French Internet users conducted their searches with the specified SE. Although Groupe Pages Jaunes, a national search tool, came in second place, the difference between it and Google was astonishing - only 2.7% of the people use the former.
The third position is occupied by Microsoft's sites,
with 2.4 out of 100 users. The other seven search engines that managed to break into the top 10 are, in order, eBay, Yahoo!, Groupe Spir Communication, Skyrock Network (both French companies), Orange sites, AOL LLC and Facebook. The last one also made its way in France's favorites back in April, one month after the French language interface of the social network became available.
Google, as if people's preferences were not obvious enough, gained 1.5% more users of search engines since April. The other competitors were faced with a slow coming down or stagnation. Facebook's growth was the most significant, if one is allowed to use such big words in relation to a 0.2% increase.
Another fact that comScore's report revealed was that at least one search was made by each of the 26 million Internet users in France. The average number of searches a French conducted daily in May was of 3.6, which translates into 113 searches per month. The total number of operations reached 749 billion, including here the combined searches that sometimes start from the same page.
Google's increasing popularity in the search engines playground is the first reason invoked when someone talks about the lack of competition on the market. Microsoft's bid for acquiring Yahoo!'s search business was also based on this ground. A merger of the two search engines, assisted by a reorganization of the implied technologies could maybe equalize the distribution of customers. Nevertheless, until that happens, Google remains the king, no matter what language we, the users, are speaking.
