It’s unheard of for a woman to have cellulite, Aussie says

Australian rapper Iggy Azalea has been using her social media accounts, particularly her Twitter feed, for anything from sorting out stuff with her management or major publications, to settling or starting feuds with fellow rappers, and shooting down criticism about cultural appropriation on her part.

As of some hours ago, Iggy is no longer on Twitter. Her account is still active and it’s still being updated regularly, but only with official info posted by her management, because she’s done with social media for a while.

Paparazzi photos leak online

A couple of paparazzi photos and negative comments about them managed to do what Azealia Banks could never do: they made Iggy swear off Twitter.

A few days ago, Iggy went on vacation with her boyfriend and paparazzi managed to sneak close to the resort and snap photos of her in a bikini from a distance. The pictures weren’t clear, but they were clear enough to show the world that she had a lot of cellulite on her famous backside, which, in turn, prompted a barrage of negative comments online.

Some saw it as the greatest irony that her most famous asset, the one she never fails to mention in her music and the one she allegedly bought at a plastic surgeon’s, could show such tell-tale signs of her indifference to healthy living.

Since this is the Internet we’re talking about, all the people who thought this was ironic didn’t fail to mention it online - and consideration to Iggy’s feelings was the last thing on their mind.

Naturally, some of the stuff written on social media and in the blogosphere, found its way back to Iggy. Also naturally, she was very upset to hear the kind of conversation she had unwillingly started.

Iggy is done with Twitter

As you can see from her final messages below, there is such a thing as too much criticism for Iggy. First of all, she says, she finds it stupid that, in this day and age, people are still “shocked” to find out that women in showbiz also have cellulite.

Secondly, she finds it even more stupid that she no longer has her privacy and that people assume that, just because she’s a rapper, she’s fair game even when she’s on personal time, like she was on this occasion, on vacation.

Because there’s too much negativity online, Iggy promises to stay offline for as long as she deems it necessary - because she doesn’t want to let it get to her and change the way she interacts with her fans. They deserve better, she says.
