Australian rapper Iggy Azalea can’t catch a break these days: first she called off her entire tour, The Great Escape, which was initially supposed to kick off in spring, and now she’s pulling out of a scheduled appearance for the Pittsburgh Pride.

The performance at the gay celebration was booked for the weekend, Saturday, June 13, 2015, with Iggy making the cancelation official some hours ago, in a statement posted to her Twitter.

You can find it available below in full. She explains that she’s sorry to have to go back on her word and disappoint her fans, but stresses that she was left with no other choice because her involvement in the Pride was taking the focus from what was really important.

Iggy actually backed out because of pressure from the community: many of her previous tweets and comments in the press have been seen as homophobic, so it made no sense for her to be front row and center at a gay celebration. In fact, it was quite an offensive thing to let happen.

An example of such a comment is a tweet she posted in 2010 reading, “When guys whisper in each other's ears I always think it's kind of homo.” It’s been deleted since, and Iggy is now saying that this was just an example of her using words she had no idea could cause so much hurt.

She was never a homophobe, she was just ignorant in the ways of the words.
