Such was the reasoning behind these 3D printed toy parts

Wheels, impellers and rotors may not be of much use on their own, but when installed on a chassis or something that fills that same role, they can lead to the creation of some really interesting contraptions.

Aiming to get kids to fear or hate vegetables a bit less than usual, LeFabShop has come up with a range of toy parts that will turn potatoes, apples and eggplants into cars, VTOLs, airplanes and submarines.

The Open Toys series is composed of various parts that will let children play with their food.

Even if kids don't grow a taste for fruit and veggies because of playing with them all day, they might at least develop a love of 3D printing early on in their lives.

The Open Toys series is not a collection of toy parts, you see, but 3D models which need you, or your kids, to make at home using a 3D printer. Although we suppose you could just as easily ask a MakerBot or Stratasys 3D printing store to do it for you, for a small fee.

There are plenty of parts, and if you download all the right ones, you might have all you need to create a plane or car even without a pear or radish to play the central role.
