A new service is available for iOS that allows you to create powerful connections with one simple statement: “if this then that.”

Putting the Internet to work for you, IFTTT lets you create connections, or recipes, between your Channels, unlocking new ways for your services and devices to communicate with each other.

Channels are services like Facebook, Gmail, Twitter, or devices like the awesome Philips Hue, Belkin WeMo, and UP by Jawbone, according to the team at IFTTT.

You use Triggers as the first part of your recipe, such as “I’m tagged in a photo on Facebook” or “I check in on Foursquare,” and then Actions to “send me a text message” or “create a status message on Facebook.”

Don’t forget that your recipes also include Ingredients. For instance, an email Trigger’s ingredients could be subject, body, attachment, received date, or the sender’s address.

IFTTT comes with a huge list of readily available recipes, in case you need a boost to get started with the service. It may not sound like much when you read about it in the news, but once you start using it, you’ll never want to leave it.

“We’re always trying to make things easier for users," Devin Foley, IFTTT's mobile lead tells Mashable. “We think the app is a great step forward in simplifying the process of connecting channels together, and making recipes and using them.”

Foley says there are currently 100,000 shared recipes on IFTTT so far, adding that “It's a number that will likely get much larger with the introduction of the mobile app.”

Go ahead and try out the free app and let us know what you think about it in the comments section below. IFTTT requires iOS 6.0 and works with most iDevices currently in circulation.
