Microsoft knows that this is the right moment to introduce some high-quality Metro apps to Windows 8.1 users, pretty much because many people out there received tablets running the modern platform on Christmas, so the company rolled out a new app category in the store.

The Spotlight section now comes with “Apps to Get You Started,” which is basically a new category that provides users with quick choices to make the most of their new Windows 8.1 devices.

The category comprises apps such as Facebook, Wikipedia, Netflix, and Adobe Photoshop Express, but also games such as Asphalt 8: Airborne, Fruit Ninja, and Angry Birds Star Wars.

“Install any or all of these apps and games and you’ll be set for hours of social networking, movie/TV watching, photo editing, gaming and shopping – which sounds like a pretty good way to get to know your new Windows devices!” Microsoft says.

Of course, not all these apps are available free of charge, so you might need to set up a payment option before downloading anything.
