New renders from Martin Hajek show a potential plastic iPhone 6

Apple has not reported plans to perpetuate the “unapologetically plastic” heritage of the iPhone 5c, and going by the recorded sales numbers, neither should it. But designer Martin Hajek (along with the Frenchies at Nowehreelse.fr) thought it would be fun to envision the iPhone 6c nonetheless.

And so the renderings above and below were born. Based on Apple’s current iPhone lineup, which includes a model encased in aluminum and one encased in polycarbonate plastic, Hajek thought up the thinner, more streamlined iPhone 6 and iPhone 6c.

Hajek owns various iPhone concepts, some more realistic than others, but the consensus among analysts and pundits alike is that Apple’s phone will end up looking a lot like his designs. However, a plastic version is highly unlikely, following last year’s experiment.

One of Hajek’s metal iPhone concepts includes a version that features glass not only on the front, but also on the back, much like the iPhone 4. With Apple cooking copious amounts of sapphire crystal in a facility in Mesa, Arizona, we can’t help but think whether this design isn’t spot on. In any case, many people wish it were.

iPhone 6 will be out in the second half of the year, but there is still some debate as to when Apple plans to actually lift the cloth off its new smartphone gem. Some say it will happen at the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, while others maintain that the company is sticking with tradition and will hold a special iPhone-centric event in the fall period.

However, if a prediction from renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo turns out correct, Apple could have plans to cram all its big announcements in a single quarter, namely the third (or fourth, if you’re thinking fiscal). These products include the rumored iWatch and iTV upgrade.

Back to the iPhone, the new-generation models will reportedly sport larger screens, upgraded processors, more RAM and video power, and perhaps other features that are under wraps. The screen sizes are said to be 4.7 inches for the entry-level model and 5.5 inches for the high-end version of the phone, which is essentially a phablet by today’s standards.

Various reports citing unnamed sources in China recently said that Apple was having problems building the larger version, which will cause it to be delayed towards 2015. These reports are unfounded, but not necessarily untrue. It may well be that Apple is actually planning to deploy the much larger phone next year intentionally.
