The blaze erupting near Idyllwild in Riverside County, California is advancing because of extremely hot, dry weather.

Officials have said that they have made no advances in containing the blaze, which changes direction rapidly.

The intensity of the wildfire has been compared to one that could occur in September or October, USA Today has reported.

The massive blaze has been dubbed the Mountain Fire, named after a community of almost 100 people where it was first spotted. There is no information about what set off the flames.

As I reported earlier, the flames are now visible from Palm Springs, and they are barely miles away from the tourist town.

Costs to put them off have been upped to $4.5 million (€3.42 million), with 3,000 firefighters brought in.
