A clip of firefighters describing the situation with the Mountain Fire in the San Jacinto Mountains gives us a glimpse about the extent of the damage.

As I told you, the fire has prompted evacuations near the town of Idyllwild and it can now be seem from Palm Springs.

According to a report by USA Today, Forest Service spokeswoman Melody Lardner states that the blaze is now a threat to 4,100 homes, hotels and cabins.

In the interview posted above, Bob Poole of the US Forest Service explains that seven homes have now been destroyed. Auxiliary buildings and vehicle have also been damaged in the blaze.

He speaks about trees regenerating slower now than in the past, and the intensity of the fires increasing over time.
