We might still be many years away from seeing Idris Elba as James Bond, if ever at all, but he might still do a major film franchise: the rebooted “Star Trek,” to be more precise.

Variety reports that the handsome Brit is in early talks with producers for the villain role in the film and that chances are that, in this installment, the bad guys will be all Klingons, since they barely made themselves noticed in the previous 2 movies.

This would mean that Elba might play the leader of the Klingons.

Granted, the report does say that Elba is in “early” talks for the role, and changes might occur even in a more advanced stage of negotiations, but the fans are already hyped at the idea. First of all, such a role would finally help Elba break into Hollywood by making him a blockbuster star.

Secondly, we already know how good he is when he plays the bad guy (Stringer Bell, anyone?), so we know he could really bring his best to a “Star Trek” villain, and this way, make the movie even better. Think of how well it served J.J. Abrams to cast Benedict Cumberbatch for Khan in “Star Trek Into Darkness.”

“Star Trek 3” will be directed by Justin Lin, and will bring back the cast made of Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin and Zoe Saldana. Since it’s supposed to come out in July 2016, the clock is ticking on the casting of the villain, so keep your eyes on this space for updates.
