It would be a world first, but it could very well happen. Idris Elba, a British actor of African descent, has opened up for the first time about him and the James Bond rumors, claiming that he would accept the role in a heartbeat if it were offered to him.

The actor was previously connected to the part by a series of rumors, and on a Reddit AMA session, the actor confessed that he would not think twice about becoming the “the first black Bond.” The rumors gained credence as Daniel Craig, the current Bond, announced he would be stepping down from the franchise after two more films.

When asked about the James Bond role, the actor is quoted as saying, “Yes, if it was offered to me, absolutely,” putting an end to the speculation that he was offered the part but that he declined it.

Idris has also confessed that he hasn’t been approached for the role at this point in time, which means that he hasn't been considered for the part like it was previously announced. The British actor has also taken the time to express frustration about being called “the black Bond.”

“I’ve always detested the phrase ‘Black Bond’, I just don’t understand it. We don’t say “White Bond”, we just say “Bond” so it suddenly becomes a black man and he’s a “Black Bond” so I hate that phrase and it’s a rumour that’s gotten out of control basically but that’s all it is. There’s no truth in it whatsoever,” he said in a previous interview at the beginning of the year.

There is a long list of actors who have been connected with the role after Daniel Craig steps down. A confirmation has not yet been made.
