First, it was Kanye West who urged moviegoers not to jump to conclusions about Guillermo del Toro’s most recent film, “Pacific Rim,” which has been described, based on trailers, as a combination of Transformers and the Kraken in “Clash of the Titans.”

Now, it’s leading man Idris Elba who says in a recent interview that it’s “a piece of art.”

Now, Elba is no teen heartthrob who just happened to shoot to stardom overnight thanks to some popcorn movie. The man has experience in both film and theaters so, if only for that, I’m inclined to believe him.

“This film is a piece of art – let's not mess around. The scale of the movie, and understand that you are looking at robots who are probably 30 or 40 stories high, and the monsters, the Kaiju, which are 50 or 70 high, and you really need to soak that up on a big screen,” he tells the Daily Mail.

“All you need to make sure when you leave the cinema is that there's no Kaiju, because you'll feel like you're still in that world,” he adds.

I don’t know about you, but I’m seeing “Pacific Rim” tonight. I will let you know if Idris was exaggerating about it or not.
